Role: Senior UI/UX Designer & Digital Project Manager
Client: FNAC
Year: 2014
Scope: Entertainment & Campaigns

Project management and information architecture for Cultura FNAC, the national digital cultural portal of FNAC Portugal. Aggregates hundreds of daily free cultural events across all store auditoriums nationwide, featuring streaming audio and thought-leadership essays.

1. Aggregating Portugal's Largest Retail Cultural Agenda

FNAC is the foremost cultural retailer in Portugal, hosting thousands of free cultural events annually in store auditoriums nationwide—spanning live rock concerts, classical recitals, literary debates, poetry readings, author book signings, and children's workshops. Cultura FNAC was built as the definitive national cultural destination to aggregate this massive nationwide schedule into a seamless, searchable digital platform.

From Retail Auditoriums to a National Cultural Stage

Cultura FNAC connected physical store auditoriums (Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Leiria, Algarve, Madeira) directly to fans' digital lives, synchronizing events automatically with store calendars and digital community pages.

2. Information Architecture & Event Discovery Engine

The platform offered comprehensive discovery mechanisms across multiple cultural disciplines:

  • Multi-Dimensional Event Filter (Search Events): Filter by store location across Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, and regional hubs, date range, and discipline: Live Music, Author Book Launches, Kids Forum Storytelling, Video-Dance Exhibitions, and Cinema Screenings.
  • Integrated Indie Music Streaming Player: In-browser audio player spotlighting compilation tracks and breakthrough indie artists championed by FNAC (including Capitão Fausto, Paus, Salto, Tigrala, Nice Weather For Ducks).
  • Direct Voices Cultural Thought Leadership: Monthly thought-provoking essays written by prominent Portuguese artists and cultural figures, debating pressing industry topics:
    • Ana Bacalhau (Deolinda): "Is there a new generation in Portuguese music?"
    • Rita Redshoes: "Is it difficult to build a lasting artistic career in Portugal?"
    • Rui Reininho (GNR): "23% VAT on culture? Music is essential!"
    • Pacman (Da Weasel): "Digital downloads: piracy or promotional discovery?"
    • Miguel Guedes (Blind Zero): "Who defends the intellectual rights of authors and musicians?"
    • Adolfo Luxúria Canibal (Mão Morta): "The contribution of independent labels to artistic diversity"
  • Social Solidarity Initiatives: Direct promotion of charity publications where 100% of book revenues funded international medical NGO AMI in combating social exclusion.
